Stress Relief Tips

1.     SPEND MORE TIME WITH A DOG

It doesn’t really matter who’s it is.  Research at the University of New York in Buffalo showed dog time relieved stress.  We’ve all known it for years.  Dogs love, without judgment.  Something we could all learn from.

2.     CREATE A NEW BELIEF SYSTEM
If you believe the day brings a new opportunity.  Or if you believe your first meeting is something that will be fun.  Then it is more likely that those will be fun.

 3.     SPEND TIME AROUND FUNNY PEOPLE WHO TELL GREAT STORIES
To each is own on what makes someone laugh.  Regardless, the more time you spend with people who make you laugh, the less stress you will have.  Try that one on this week.  It works wonders.

 4.     FIND A BREATHTAKING VIEW
Ever stare at something that made you realize the significance of the world around you.  It’s a funny thing how that perspective can make the petty things in our lives become so obvious.  Go take a hike or stare at the sky for 20 minutes.  Realize what position you are in the universe, accept it, and take the rest of your day in stride. Check out the research by Allen Elkin, Ph.D., on this topic.

5.     FORGIVE
Probably one of the hardest things for any of us to do.  But forgiving is one of the quickest ways to release stress from the body.  Unfortunately, it cannot be faked.  Real forgiveness comes from the depths of the heart and soul.  If you can summon it from there, expect a nice surprise.

6.     MEDITATE
Researchers at West Virginia University found that 35 participants who underwent “mindfulness meditation” saw a 44 percent reduction in psychological distress over 3 months. You don’t have to complicate this one.  You can meditate when you're in the shower. Or just sit quietly in front of the computer.

7.     ADD 10 MINUTES OF EXTRA TIME BEFORE AND AFTER MEETINGS
Don’t let effects you cannot control, like traffic, affect your mood and attitude when you are late.  Instead, consider providing yourself extra time so you don’t even have to worry about.

 8.     BE FUN AND PLAYFUL
This apply’s to almost anything.  How you deal with your kids, your partner, your life.  Instead of figuring out how to beat someone at whatever game you’re playing, think about how you could make it fun.  Nothing better than a good game of grabass. Reef Karim, M.D. at UCLA has some fun research on this.

 9.     FIND THE GOOD
Its way more fun than finding shit that’s wrong.  Plus it decreases your stress.

10.  GO TO A GENTLEMEN’S SALON
It’s a place where you can grab a drink, meditate while you get your hair washed, and interact in a fun and positive environment.  It’s like a 45-minute auto-stress releaser. Visit out barbershop in Denver today for a kick back vibe, a clean cut, and a drink. We promise, you will not be disappointed.
