Advantages of A Straight Razor Shave

The REAL Advantages Of A Straight Razor Shave:

For many men, the sole shave they have ever understood entails standing in front of the bathroom sink, hurriedly scratching their faces using a plastic Bic and hurrying off to use bloodied little pieces of toilet paper scattering each cheek. Shaving was not supposed to be this way. Few guys have ever been on the receiving end of a shave, much less kicking back in a barber chair and being treated to shave oils and a heated lather. It makes you wonder what all the hype was about.

The first steel-edged cut-throat razors were manufactured in Sheffield in 1680. By the late 1680s--early 1690s, razors with silver-covered handles along with other Sheffield-made products known as "Sheffield wares" were being exported to ports in the Gulf of Finland, approximately 1200 miles from Sheffield. From that point, these products were likely sent to Finland as well as Russia. By 1740, Benjamin Huntsman was making straight razors complete with decorated handles and hollow-ground blades made from cast steel, using a process he invented. Huntsman's procedure was embraced by the French sometime afterward, albeit reluctantly at first as a result of governmental concerns. Back in England, razor makers were even more reluctant than the French to embrace Huntsman's steel-making procedure and just did so once they saw its achievement in France.

Following their debut in 1680, straight razors became the primary method of guide shaving for at least two hundred decades and stayed in common usage until the mid-20th century. Straight razor manufacturing finally dropped behind that of their safety razor, which has been released in late 19th century, also included a disposable blade. Electric razors also decreased the market share of their straight razors, particularly since the 1950s.

Since 2012 the production of straight razors has steadily climbed, as more and more people realize the advantages of shaving with this method...and it really does make sense. These razors are made to last forever and rarely require sharpening. Compare this to modern cartridge razors that last a week. A sharper blade is simply superior. Three more blades less sharp is still inferior to one sharper blade. Most straight razor shaves last 2 days. On top of that, you are running a blade across skinless, thus decreasing chances for cuts, missed patches, and irritation. Dollar shave club offers decent deals on men's shaving razors.
