8 Home Grooming Tips for Men In Denver
Ask 100 men, and the majority will tell you that they want to look after themselves. In recent years, the stigma that once came with self-care and grooming has broken down. Who doesn’t want to age with grace? We love to help men feel confident at Frank’s Barbershop Denver, but we can’t be with you every day (sorry!). Therefore, we’ve listed some tips that you can utilize at home!
1. Reduce the Shower Temperature
Not for that reason; cold showers throughout the calendar will help to prevent dry skin. The hotter the water, the more likely you are to irritate the skin. If you’re someone who needs moisturizer after a shower, try reducing the temperature (especially in the winter!). Not only does it help the skin, but you’ll probably be in the shower for a shorter time, so you can boost productivity too.
2. Don’t Wash Your Hair Every Day
Sticking with the shower theme, shampoo is vital because it helps to remove the sweat and dirt that builds in the hair. However, there is such a thing as washing too much. If you shampoo every day, there’s a risk of removing the natural oils, and this will leave your hair looking frizzy, dull, and thin. If this has been a problem, we recommend shampooing every other day instead.
3. Be Proactive with Cuts
In our experience, most men are reactive with their hair, which means they’re sitting in the barber’s chair too late. If you notice your hair getting longer, others will notice it also. If your hair goes through a growth spurt, don’t be afraid to visit the barber more regularly. Waiting till the last minute may introduce unwanted stress, and nobody needs that in their lives.
4. Experiment with Products
There are so many different hair and beard products for men because there’s isn’t one magical solution that works for everybody. We believe that the best solution is to consider your hair, research, and choose what suits you (rather than merely selecting a product because it worked for somebody else!). While thinner hair will need light products, waxes and pomades are designed for thicker hair.
5. Try Different Aftershaves and Colognes
The experimentation shouldn’t end with hair products, play around with aftershaves and colognes too. Lots of men buy a dozen different scents and change it up every day, but we think it’s better to find two really good scents and stick with these. Mix it up over the year too; while summer might suit a fruity fragrance, winter might call for a spicy scent.
6. Shave the Neck
While we offer complimentary neck clean-ups between appointments, it might also be wise to invest in a quality trimming kit for the home. Just because you aren’t visiting the barber every week, this doesn’t mean you can’t keep the neck under control. With a small trimmer or a straight razor, ask your partner to clean up the neck (or use a handheld mirror and carefully trim it yourself!).
7. Look After the Beard
Beards are no longer a trend, and a significant percentage of men sport them. Just because lots of men have a beard, this doesn’t mean they always look good. For the best appearance, you NEED to maintain. We recommend investing in a beard trimmer and balms and oils to keep your beard alive. A good beard goes great with a good suit!
8. Use Sunscreen
Finally, before you click away and think that you’re above sunscreen, this is one of the best tips for reducing wrinkles and aging (while also keeping your risk of skin cancer low!). In the summer months, use an SPF 15 moisturizer in the morning routine, and you may just notice the difference. Your skin is both moisturized and protected with only one product.
With these eight home grooming tips for men, you can look great and feel confident at all times!
